The staples on all three catalogues rusty, marking the paper around them, no pages detached, but all three very dry and delicate. The second splitting at one point The first two with the printed price lists, also marked by the rusty staples. A little foxing, marking and creasing to the pages. All in the original wrappers, firmly attached, but some creasing and also some tearing, with loss, on the spines.

The brief pencil annotations in the first two catalogues clearly relate to the bids listed on the letters described below, although whether some or all are by Sir Richard I am not sure:- the annotation to 18th June lot 229 appears to read ‘You already have a copy with the colophon’.

The third catalogue has prices scribbled against a few lots.

The three typed letters relate to the sales on 17th, 18th and 25th of June 1935, Sir Robert’s name handwritten on the bottom of each. On the back of each letter is a form on which the details of the lots bid for are described, including Sir Robert’s maximum bid and the hammer price. The letters a little foxed and creased across.

Sir Robert Leicester Harmsworth was a member of the Roxburghe Club whose library was of exceptional quality.
