George Elliot Romola Original photographic illustrations
William Blackwood, no date (circa 1890)
8vo. 504 pages. With 18 tipped-in photographic illustrations, many of them views of Florence and Florentine architecture. With the ticket of G. Cecchi, Florence, presumably a bookseller, inside, and in an elaborate Florentine binding, with red leather patches (some defective) on-laid and decoration in gold and red.
Unfortunately the book has got damp at some time. This has led to some browning and wrinkling and curving to the pages. The red dye used on the edges of the pages has also run, leaving pink stains on some pages. Some of the photographs are also wrinkled and five of them touched by the pink staining, although not in a way that obscures the image. The pink staining also effects the binding, which has some rubbing and discolouration.
