First Edition. Two Volumes 8vo. Volume 1: iv+206 pages+ 32 page publishers catalogue, undated. Volume 2: iv+202 pages +32 page publisher’s catalogue dated August 1896. Agrees with the description (A47a) in Soho Bibliography of Henry James, volume 1 having the undated catalogue beginning with Hall Caine’s The Manxman.
A worn copy. The hinges split and some strengthened with clear tape, and adisive inserted behind the spines of both volumes. The top and fore-edges of both volumes with a smoky brownness, which frequently runs onto the blank margins of the pages, including the title pages and endpapers. Light creasing and faint grey fingerings here and there. Both title pages also a little dusty, with a faint crease on the title page of Volume 1. A crease in the very corner of the first few leaves of Volume 2. The books holding together, but the sections rather uneven.
Bound in the publisher’s blue cloth, lettered and stamped as described in the bibliography. The bindings worn and marked, with the ghost of a library label on the front boards.
