London, Henry Lea, 1857. 8vo. (19.5 x 12 cm), engraved frontispiece + title page + 614 pages. A number of small illustrations within the text and two other full page engravings. Some light foxing and fingering and occasional marking throughout, particularly to the title page. The edge of the title page creased and a crease in the margin of the first 10 pages, one with a tear in the margin and a faint water stain in the margin of the frontispiece. Bound in the original cloth, some wear particularly to the head and tail of the spine, the gilt decoration on the spine faded. The front endpaper split along the hinge and the rear free endpaper missing, but the boards firmly attached.
