Fine Victorian Binding. Printed by the Chiswick Press
Book Title:
Belisarius
Belisarius, translated into English
Chiswick, printed by C. & C. Whittingham, 1833.
12mo. (13x8cm), half title page, title page + 187 pages. Previous owner’s inscription dated 1833. The half title and title page a little foxed, otherwise very clean and crisp, with the usual high standard of printing of this printer.
Bound in blue leather, beautifully finished. The binding a little rubbed and scratched with a very small piece of leather missing on the front, and slightly bumped on the lower corners. The edges of the boards tooled in gold, with a gold band around the boards and a tiny row of blind-stamped decoration within this. The spine with raised bands, an elaborate gilt decoration between the bands and a label in a slightly darker leather with the title on it in very small letters, perfectly aligned. The endpapers in a carefully matched marbled paper and the same marbling applied to the edges of the pages of the closed book.
