Book Title:
Mary of Burgandy
Bookplate of Sir Percy Florence Shelley, son of the great poet.
The bookplate is in the front of;-
James, G.P.R. Works Volume 2, Mary of Burgandy
London, Smith Elder &Co, 1844
8vo. (24x15cm), xvi+424 pages. Generally clean internally, although with some brown spotting and marking, rather heavier spotting to the frontispiece and last three pages of text. The hinges split along the end papers, so that the book is detached from the binding and the first few pages rather loose. In the publisher’s brown cloth binding, worn and split along part of the length of the hinge.
The bookplate (8.5x5cm) is mounted in the middle of the front inside cover and has Sir Percy’s full name below his crest (Sir Percy having inherited a baronetcy from his grandfather). The surface of the plate is a little marked and there is a line towards the edge (approximately 1.5cm long) that appears have been caused by careless application of paste when the plate was affixed.
