The proof reproduces considerable authorial changes: on almost every page groups of words have been 'x'ed out and replaced either by re-typing or by hand written changes. Many paragraphs have been crossed out, and occasional extra pages have had to be added to accommodate longer additions. This proof reproduces an early state of the text, not just the production of the book. Bound in the original printed wrapper, rubbed and marked. The proof shows signs of use, with the fore-edge marked and the corners creased.
