Nineteenth Century Colour Printing Stowe, Harriet Beecher Woman in Sacred History
London & New York, Sampson Low etc., 1874.
With 15 mounted coloured chromolithographs. Large 4to. (28x21cm), xii + 176 pages. Occasional light foxing and slight creasing, a piece missing from the top margin of the last page caused by careless separation from the previous leaf. Each of the colour illustrations mounted on a thicker card; the mounts somewhat foxed. The coloured images, which are approximately 18 x 13 cm, are printed in bold, bright colours of great intensity. Bound in the publisher ’ s blue cloth binding, a fine example of high Victorian book design, with an elaborate frame in gold on the front cover, containing two small scenes also in gold, with further decoration in black, the black stamped heavily on the board in order to produce the effect of embossing. The corners of the cover rubbed and the front cover very slightly darkened towards the spine; the spine faded, frayed at the top and bottom and with a light brown mark aprox. 1 cm wide and 3 cm long.
